About Sarah Daniels

I am a proud product of public schools. I grew up on the East Coast in a small community (Wayland, Massachusetts) similar to Aspen, and went to a similarly sized public high school to Aspen High. I thought growing up in a tight knit community was wonderful and wanted my kids to have the same small town values. We are transplants to Aspen. My family relocated to Snowmass in 2020 from the Bay Area in California. We chose Aspen for a number of reasons and the strength of schools topped the list. We love living in the mountains, love the Aspen community, and love the rural qualities of the valley. In California, the schools were great academically, but the level of stress on the kids was astronomical. One thing that has stood out to me since our kids started school in Aspen has been the value that Aspen, as a community and in the schools, puts on the Whole Child education. From outdoor education to rich electives to IB for all, kids in Aspen receive a fantastic education with emphasis on whole person development. I look forward to continuing that ethos while on the Aspen School Board.

As soon as my kids started school in Aspen, I jumped right in to being involved in various ways in the schools. I currently lead the DAC (District Accountability Committee), the middle school SAC (School Accountability Committee) and I’m on the Board for the Aspen Education Foundation. So I have my finger in a lot of the ASD pies, so to speak, from the financial to the day-to-day academics, working with other parents, teachers, and administration in these roles. I can leverage all of this experience while on the Aspen School Board. Prior to coming to Colorado, I was involved in our public school district in California. Most notably, I was on the Board and president of the Board of the educational foundation that supported the public schools where my children attended. That educational foundation worked closely with the superintendent and assistant superintendent on millions of dollars of programs to support 9 schools in the District.  Joining the School Board is the next natural step for the work I have done in schools, and I look forward to serving the Aspen community in this way.
